
COMPANY PROFILE
In 1981 George E. and Betty L. Thornhill formed Southwest Building Systems as a sole proprietorship after selling the family Airstream travel trailer and taking the risk of going into business and stepping out in the entrepreneurial mindset. George, who we miss every day since his passing in 1999, was completely involved in the entire Sales and Management effort. Betty (currently the CEO) was responsible for auditing the Accounting / Finance. Don Youngs (retired, but still the technical professional) provided the Technical and Installation Support. Today, after 30 years of business, our company is housed at 1530 Hwy 327 W. Silsbee, Texas in a two-story building.
Southwest Building Systems (SBS) incorporated in 1997 and is overseen by David M. Thornhill. David joined SBS after graduation from Lamar University with a business management degree and two years experience working in the banking industry. In 2006, with 25 years of electronic experience from the ground up, David was promoted by merit to President of SBS.
SBS’s team is currently composed of both full time and part time employees.
A Board of Directors and Company Officers oversee the entire operation.
COMPANY SAFETY
- Safety is the first priority & responsibility for all SBS employees both on the job site & off.
- Accident free for 10 years which includes reportable injuries to Occupational Safety & Health Administrations (OSHA) & reportable U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle accidents.
- Experience Modification Rating (EMR) is 0.083.
- Company Drug & Alcohol program.
- Management presents monthly Safety Training.
- Employee wage increases & performance bonuses are based first upon safety performance record.
